All that, and now she wants money
So!
Thank you for all of your sweetness regarding the news story and Bloggie nomination. I’m incredibly amazed at and grateful for everything that’s happened over the past week, so much so that I really didn’t leave the computer for fear of missing a comment or email or something…which basically explains my life for the past six years. But! I really never thought that the world of blogging (blogging, for chrissakes) would become this awesome, but it really has, and I’m continually thankful (stunned?) that you’re here.
It’s no secret that I love writing, and I feel like there’s still a lot for me to learn in the traditional sense, but even more so when combining it with the internet.
That’s why last night, while sitting with some of my favorite people, I decided I was going to find a way to get myself to SXSW, the 5-day interactive festival in Austin where the Bloggies will be announced. I’d like to learn things, and see things, and also? Lasso Heather Armstrong to my hotel with licorice rope and present her with my kidneys in an elegantly-wrapped box.
At first, I just assumed to myself that it wouldn’t happen, that I couldn’t splurge the funds I need for school, bills, etc. on traveling right now. Then, a certain someone told me that they would cover my room for the length of my stay if I could raise $325, the discounted admission ticket price.
I’ve never been comfortable with the idea of plastering a “donate” button here and leaving it at that, and even in this sense, I’m still not, however bad I may want to go (BAD). I also played around with ebay, which was an ordeal in itself, so I figured the easiest way to accomplish anything would be through this website.
I’m selling my Threadless collection. Here are the shirts I own (click on each for more information):
They are all size “Girly Medium,” (they are fitted — size chart here) and have been worn 2-3 times each, except for this one, which is brand new. They have very minimal fading from being washed, and carry no tears, stains, etc. as I love them and have treated them lovingly. They retail at $17, and most are not currently in stock.
I’m selling them for $15 each which includes shipping. If you would like to buy one, email me at racheljm (at) gmail.com and let me know which one you’d like, and when I confirm, click on the donate button to the right to pay via PayPal. Once your $15 clears, your shirt and a piece of my heart will be mailed to you the next morning.
If you hate the designs or are a big strong man, and maybe decided to skip the McDonald’s $1 menu this afternoon, the button will be there for spare donations of the monetary equivalent of your nuggets. When two weeks pass, or if I meet my goal sooner, the button comes down.
I may occasionally throw some other things into this post that could potentially be sold. Books? Bags? Bello? (Warning: Teething. Sharp little teeth!) However, being that this is my first time trying this sort of thing, I guess I’m just seeing how it goes.
Thanks for putting up with me.

Wait, you’re going to be in Austin? Less than 200 miles from Houston? We’re gonna have to find a way to meet.
OK let’s get the ball rolling! I’m in! :)
OMG, if I had any spare funds I would ‘donate’!
If you do get HER attention with your kidneys, feel free to mention that I WORSHIP THE PAGE SHE WRITES ON.
Marianne – I’M DOWN!
StupidJimmy – You are the least stupid person I know. Thank you! :)
Shannon – Oh, I WILL be getting her attention!
Let’s see what I can do…
:)
i hope u get to Austin
good luck.. my prayers are with u
:)
i thought all that she wants is another baby…
…a-a-ay
i’ll take bello! i would love to donate. but i unfortunately am a poor college student as well. good luck getting there though!
I doubt you’d want to permanently part with Bello, so maybe you could just rent him out…
good luck!
I hope you make it! I’d buy one of your shirts but I am more of a “girly large.” ;)
I like putting up with you :) Good luck, I hope you meet your goal!!
If I had any monies, I’d give it to you.
I want to try and go too…it looks like a great opportunity to learn. Just don’t know if I can afford the cost and the vacation time. Hope you do get to go.
OK, that haiku is hilarious, as is the bands t-shirt. But neither quite so hilarious as Heather B. Armstrong, whose site has stolen many a working hour from me… happily.
What a great opportunity! I just sold a ton of stuff on ebay and made a few hundred dollars for a trip myself. Good luck!
Oh, I am perfectly fine with plastering your donate button wherever it needs to be!
Just put it in bold on the pgh women’s blog!
i know it’s not much, but as a self-professed travel junkie, i know that every dollar counts when you’re trying to travel somewhere…so i hope my measly $5 buys you a cab ride during the award conference.
