Ancestry! Heritage! Grandparents! Hooray!
December 21, 2005
I’ve been wondering a lot lately about my ancestors. I’m not even talking the big picture, but the little, insignificant things. I’m curious as to which of my quirks and traits were actually passed down and not aquired, and which similarities came from which nationalities.
Was my great great great great great great Ukrainian grandmother uninclined to carry any sort handbag or pouch, and instead prefered to carry around her embroidery tools in her back pocket?
Was her husband unimpressed and rather annoyed by technological change, even though he transitioned easily to new ways whilst he complained?
Were her daughters this anxious to be married?
And what about the Italian side? Was my great great great great great great Italian grandmother a grape stomper who prefered not to wear shoes even when wine season was over?
Was her husband able to produce the best sauce known to Sicily even though he didn’t like spaghetti?
Or, in that case, is it instead possible that my Ukrainian genes are battling my Italian tendencies? I mean seriously, I was born with olive skin and black hair and somehow became pale with blue eyes. Those things don’t just happen.

Hmm..I’ve never thought much about my ancestors. I bet they’re all chinese from China anyway..though I do look abit like a malay.
You have both Italian and Ukrainian genes? How cool is that!

I doubt she’d have worn her embroidery tools in her back pockets because… didn’t women HAVE to wear skirts back then? :P
I wonder about mine too. More about whether their fathers were as strict as mine for being female.

I’ve wondered about my ancestors before too, but not into much detail. Have a great Christmas!

I think everyone has moments of wondering about their ancestors. Where do all their little weird habits come from? Maybe from them, maybe it’s just us. Who knows. You got me all curious now about mine!

Ooh your features sounds pretty. xD I never even thought about my ancestors..I’ve only thought about how people became born..like how DID God create us? Hmm..we shall never know.

OH my, that definitely gives you something to think about. But you make a valid point, im french, italian, porteguese, cuban and cacusian all at once and I have very odd tendicies.

That is interesting. I guess I hadn’t given it much thought until you mentioned that. Makes me wonder if my French ancestors watched beheadings of Marie Antoinette or anything like that.

I have to say, I rarely ever thought about my ancestors beyong the great-grands.
But the times when I do ponder, I do wonder how they lived. Since they’re all from China, one from south the other from north? East? What’s the differences in their lives etc.
And I think I’d go for a mini iPod or a normal one. Don’t really need one flashier than that. Not enough $$$. I am trying to get more though!

Ahh I’ve thought of this before and came to the conclusion that no matter what trait I acquired or how my ancestors may have spent their lives, I’m very much grateful for being here today, alive and in good health =) Because along the way, these ancestors of ours worked hard to give their posterity a better life than they had.
Just my two cents ;)

That’s pretty interesting….Hmmm. :]

Wow, I’ve never really thought about that before. But it is kinda interesting, I must say.

Ah, the age old question - Is who I am today due to ME, or my genetics/environment/conditioning?
Which ancestor gave me my anger management problems, if any?
And welcome back. :)

I’d have to agree with you. My ancestry is really puzzling. I was born looking like an Italian with a polish face. My hair is long, brown and wavy and my skin is olive, yet I have a polish-type facial structure. But.. I don’t know of any ancestors who are Italian. I’m Russian, Polish (born in Poland), French, and German. My Russian grandmother lives in Italy, that’s the closest I get to being Italian.

I love how you use situations that your ancestors may have experienced to symbolize your own, modern characteristics.

Merry Christmas!
I don’t know anything about my ancestry. I don’t know my real parents, or anything. kinda sucks. meh. sucked being adopted.

Interesting post. I’ve never really thought about my relatives in that sense. Past or present ones.
I’ve always thought it would be neat to see what my grandparents/great grandparents would have written in a journal/blog of their own. Sadly, no such thing still exists. :/

Reading that made me wonder about my ancestors a little. I find it so interesting to learn about the people who lived years ago.
