And also, there were strawberries on sale at the supermarket
April 7, 2008
The winters in Pittsburgh are long and colorless, and each November I’m a little more sure that this time, this season, I won’t make it. By the time Halloween has passed and Christmas is rearing its big tacky head, I’ve pretty much packed up my life because by now, I’ve given up trying to accomplish anything when I haven’t seen the sun in three months.
But today I woke up and the sky was such a way that I knew, finally, gray clouds wouldn’t come rolling in the second I walked outside.
I was still wearing a long-sleeved shirt and jeans from the night before, but I laid flat on the grass, and it felt like I had been trapped in the same room of the same house since Thanksgiving, and I was finally allowed outside again. Ideas were clearer, and I didn’t care that there was dirt on my cheek or what bugs were crawling through my hair which is currently uncommonly long, even for me.
By the way, are these weeds?
They’re all over the place, much better than dandelions, and I’d like to gather them in little bouquets for some tiny, mythical wedding.
I was on my way out for lacrosse when I caught a glimpse of myself in the downstairs mirror. I nearly forgot that my sporty clothing, which, for the winter, is reserved for use as pajamas, was socially acceptable clothing for the warmer, more wonderful parts of the year. I was wearing a t-shirt and shorts, ready to walk outside with bare legs, and the thought passed through my mind, you can’t go out in that. You look like a whore.

I love it when weeds flower.
It snowed again here today. Much envy.

I ate my lunch on a bench in Schenley Plaza this afternoon. In the sun. It was delightful. The top of my head got warm. I kind of have an urge to tear off my clothes and go streaking through Schenley Park, just to increase my vitamin D production.
I won’t though. If I do, it will probably be on the news tonight, and you’ll know.

Not sure if they are weeds, but they are pretty. I have pansies that grow up through the cracks between the bricks on my side patio. I won’t let me hubby pull them because they are pretty. So I have purple and yellow pansies going rampant over there and love it! I’m hoping my lillies of the valley start spreading this spring too…

One person’s weed is another person’s…
Here in Germany April is the coldest month yet. I’m a little envious.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, our most wonderful flowers are but domesticated weeds, pampered and shaped to our illusion to what they should be.
Sometimes they are a lot like ourselves really, fussed over and placed on a pedestal for all to admire, or left in the garden untended to go wild and subject to antipathy.

weeds are plants that grow where you don’t want them to be. so anything can be a weed even trees. not in the southwest but in some parts. i think anything that is green and grows without my help (or hindrance) is a good thing!

I do that too! The first few times I wear a tank top or cap sleeves or a lower neckline, I start thinking “God I probably look like such a ho”. See what the weather does to us?

Just remember it is time to shave your legs and under arms now that shorts and tanktops are in bloom.

Hey long hair is good for spring - especially on windy days!
I am told by a friend of mine that there is no such thing as a weed. I kind of disagree - except for what you picture here. I would call that a wildflower! :-)

If it was perpetually winter we could be classy 365.

There is no such thing as a weed, they are but just plants that are growing somewhere they are not wanted. I think that makes those tiny little flowers nt weds because they look lovely scattered throughout the grass (just so long as it’s not my grass).
