It begins
June 9, 2006
I’m leaving late tomorrow night (early Sunday morning?) for the rest of the summer. Even though the reality of moving to another state (and far, far away from the city) to pursue a job hasn’t quite hit me yet, there are so many questions running through my head that I’m almost positive I won’t get any rest before the drive.
Did I pack the right things? What about my co-workers? Are they going to be athletic and intense or preppy and laid-back? Do I even fit into either of those categories?
And what about the job itself? I’ve coached in Pittsburgh, but lacrosse is a thousand times bigger on the East Coast. I feel like I’m going overseas and teaching a course in Japanese linguistics after taking a single semester of Japan 101.
And what if I hate being paid to live on the beautiful coast and receiving complete compensation for room and board while doing something that I absolutely love and then having it on my résumé so that paired with my 3.8 G.P.A. I won’t have to worry as much about getting into a Masters program?
That was incredibly obnoxious. Admittedly, I’m incredibly excited.
What I plan to do when I’m not on duty:
- Train for college cross country team next semester.
- Not buy anything; save every single penny for a new laptop (God, I want a MacBook) and next year’s rent.
- Write. A lot. All the time.
So, from here on out, I’ll keep updating with a sort of Rich-esque travel journal. Over the next three months I will be in no less than five states and take no less than one thousand pictures. Sunday starts day one.

Haha Rachel I can see that you’re really excited! And wow you receive complete compensation for room and board? They must really want you there. I didn’t know that you have a GPA of 3.8! That’s incredible! Of course, I expected nothing less from you. :) Oh I do hope that you write alot, especially here. And I’ve been wanting to ask, are you still going to continue as editor at ML?

That wasn’t obnoxious, it was (’twas?) true. You ought to be excited. That’s quite an opportunity.
And a 3.8? That’s nothing.
Just kidding. I have a 2.8. You’re definitely higher up there. I heard an absolutely terrific lecture at NYU from a Shakespeare professor from Slippery Rock. He assured everyone that he rarely “awards A’s.” He kind of intimidated me. You must’ve worked your ass off.
Anyway, I’m very happy for you. You’re on to great things, as always.
P.S. Keep on writing. I’ll be the first in line at your book signing.

Yep like you, I absolutely love ML. I think I’m not ever leaving there. ;D Nope I didn’t receive a letter from you. I think alot of our letters got lost in the mail or maybe we just got our addresses wrong because that time many people didn’t receive letters. I think the mailman took our letters and used them as toilet papers. What a way to save money.

Oooh sounds exciting! I’m sure you’ll do fine =) I admit, I’m jealous ;) Getting everything paid for is just awesome, so take advantage of all they have to offer. Have fun and take lots of pictures!
Oh, and Macs totally rock =)

Hey girl, you are worrying too much. As long as you are confident about what lies before you, you should be fine. Take things as they come, and everything should fall into place sooner or later. (:
All the best! And congratulations on your relocation and your new job.

I’m SO JEALOUS! How do I get in on that?!

Where in the East Coast are you heading to? :) Sounds like an awesome job! :)

You’re so lucky. It sounds like your life is getting started!

Good luck with the move… I’m sure you’ll love things, and in the highly unlikely case that you don’t, at least it’ll be a learning experience and help you broaden your horizons! :D

I share your sentiment of being scared about a new job. Those same questions have been running through my mind for quite some time now. I only hope that I regain that excited feeling I seem to have lost.
