Over the top
May 26, 2008
I went to Kennywood yesterday and used a disposable camera for the first time in at least five years. I started using a cheap Kodak point-and-shoot sometime around 11th grade.
There was something kind of cool about being limited to twenty-seven shots. Where I would usually take five or six pictures to get something right, I only took one.
If my hair got in the way, I couldn’t delete it.
Coincidentally, I value and (surprisingly) like them a lot more than any of the digital pictures I’ve taken in a pretty long time.

I’m glad you and Derrick got to go finally after our weather debacle!

It never fails to amaze me that you can find things through a camera lens that are so amazing. Thanks for inspiring me to take more pictures!
And we have to plan that day of picture taking soon!

I grew up in Pittsburgh, so these pictures are making me have intense Kennywood school picnic flashbacks. I miss that place!

Cool photos. Nice sunburn. :)

Cynthia - It’s Kennywood. It’s inevitable.
Dawn - Thank you, and you’re welcome.

Guess I’ll have to explore Kennywood someday to complete the Pittsburgh experience. Looks like you had a blast!

Oh man, you went to Kennywood! I want to go to Kennywood! I haven’t been to Kennywood since…. last summer!
Actually, I’m going in a few weeks, with the boy’s family for his dad’s company picnic. What does that mean? It means free admission and I think a free picnic. Yay!

I still love my real-film camera more than life itself. It takes better pictures. I love technology, I’d die to have my photographer sister’s kickass $2000 piece, but… there’s something about film. There just is.

Man, Kennywood! Do they still have the Logjammer? I loved that ride.
Also, “logjammer” sounds gross when I think about it.

Aw, you look so purty!!

Heyyy these are terrific!

Oh, Kennywood. How I love thee… and your potato patch fries…

How did you take the picture of people behind you on the Wave Swinger without turning around? Hmmm interesting!
May 28th, 2008 at 12:32 am
Chris - Oh yes.
Eric - Well, I didn’t. I turned around. :)

Digital, not digital–those photos turned out great! I can see why you fancy them.

I really agree with this. I feel very cavalier with digital photos. They are easily deleted and often remain on my computer never to make it into prints. Regular photos even taken with the cheapest of throw away cameras sort of get this sacredness you get with prints.
I haven’t used one in years and years, but this really makes me want to go out and grab one.
P.S. - Thanks for stopping by my site! :)

Look at you work the disposable camera, those are amazing pics… better than I could take with my digital… or my camera phone. I love it!
When I was at “Fiesta Texas” I was reminscing about the same thing… disposable cameras and how fun they are b/c you are inevitably surprised with what you get at the end.

Lindz - That’s a really good point. I remember getting home late and being like, wait, damn, I can’t look at these immediately.
