    Revenge of the Greeks

    April 10, 2006

Before joining a sorority, I figured that the Greek organizations were more comparable to the one portrayed in Legally Blonde than that of Revenge of the Nerds. I learned quickly that sorority girls do not usually carry cutesy matching stationery, nor do they live in furnished mansions on the south beaches of Florida, nor are they instantly magnetized to tight-shirted, popped-collared frat boys.

But to my recent surprise, Greek Week does exist. Sororities actually do battle each other through dance competitions, dodgeball games, and egg tosses. They do wear coordinating t-shirts with the fraternity they’re partnered with. They do barbarically stick a girl in the middle of a shaky chariot and race her around a cement track. The only difference between us and Revenge of the Nerds: The meatheads didn’t lose. This year.

Hmmm…Greek life must be big there. I don’t even know if we have that at my college.

It’s cool you’re so involved in everything!

I would never be able to be in a sorority. I like my freedom too much and it seems like you have to devote a lot of your time towards it.
