Stitcher

July 25, 2007

There’s a little old woman who sits across from me on the bus. She never gets up, just sits, hunched over, cross-stitching little faces on cloth. Little bald faces. Her eyes are completely vacant as she does this. I’m not sure why the little faces are bald, but if it were up to me, it would be because she steals human hair from various sources and finishes the little portraits at home without the need of thread.

I’m going to run away to the beach for a few days next Sunday. Although I can only really afford the gas it will take to make the 6-hour drive, I’d rather sleep with my face in cold sand than spend the remainder of the summer locked up in this apartment.

That’s incredibly creepy and wonderfully eccentric.

Sleeping on the beach is highly underrated. Keep us updated while you’re there. If you can steal shelter, you can steal wi-fi.

And take some pictures of the shoreline for me. I’m not brave enough to up and leave.

You should write a short story about that. Or a long one.

I think you should stay on the bus one day and see where the old woman gets off.

My bet is that she leaves the bus and walks straight into the woods.

    Pittsburgh is a strange place.

It’s good to get away when you can.
