The scene on the bus (goes round and round?)

      April 11, 2008

Riding home after a joyful win, almost 40 minutes from Pittsburgh, I’m in the front seat.

Do you know why the chaperoning “adult” sits in the first seat? Because she needs to shout SIT DOWN until her throat is raw, and being in the front makes it so she only has to bark in one direction.

I don’t mind if they’re walking to and fro. Really, I don’t. But they’ve taken to crawling on the backs of the seats from the back to the middle.

      Like spiders.

I can picture the driver taking a sudden turn, flinging all 60 pounds of one of them out the window. We have a game in two days. I can’t afford to lose one.

A 16-wheeler pulls up beside us. They all barrel to the windows, pumping their right arms up and down, determinedly punching the air above them, until the trucker pulls down on his horn. They cheer.

We stop at a red light by a gas station. A boy, their age with shaggy hair and a backpack, pulls up the right side of his shirt, exposing a portion of his chest.

Gasps and gagging noises abound. His are bigger than mine!

I periodically glance at the bus driver’s eyes in the big mirror hung above his head, rating his annoyance.

      He was expressionless.

Congrats on the win, coach. You’re definitely someone to look up to.

*His are bigger than mine!* is what I choose to take away from this post. Haha.

Sheesh…that makes me a little hesitant about having kids any time soon.

I coached middle school softball for a few years..seemed like a good idea at the time—and a bus load of 7-8 grade girls on game bus is responsible for my lack of hearing today.
The years with the girls varsity basketball team was relatively peaceful since they all had their earphones on..however coming home after a victory was a bit rowdy cause they loved to sign ..and they won all the time. Riding the football team bus was a piece of cake compared to the females, believe me.

Now weren’t you like that in high school? Kidding of course. They really do need to work on sound proofing those buses. Fortunately I only ever had to ride one during field trips.

As for ‘His are bigger than mine.’ All I can say is I’m in a full body quiver of disgust!

You need to hire a crack head to jump around on the bus and ramble on about whatever he feels like. that’ll teach the little shits. and if they’re still bad, get wendys for them but feed it all to the crack head. <3

If you’d tossed them out the window and run them over with the bus there’s not a jury in the country that would have convicted you.

The bus driver has an admirable level of tolerance.

I found myself surrounded by a gaggle of girls about that age last week. I was startled, a bit frightened, and amused at JUST HOW MUCH NOISE THEY CAN PRODUCE. It’s fascinating.

North Hills didn’t have a lacrosse team when I went there 20 years ago!
